Games are part of human experience since prehistoric times.

All cultures, genders and ages play games.

What is a game?

Games are thus expressions of intelligence.

  • Languages, Mathematics, Religion and Science are also expressions of intelligence.
  • All of them have their defined set of rules.
  • All of them tries to model the real world in different perspectives.

Games generate learning, skills, enjoyment and fulfillment.

  1. Playing games is the most primitive and the most effective way for learning and understanding the complexity of the real
  2. world.
  3. Animals play games for the same reason.
  4. Humans play games in social interactions of economics and politics too.
  5. Game Theory (Mathematics) analyses these social-games theoretically.

If there is no role acting as opposition, a game is called a puzzle game. If there is an opposition then the game has conflict and competition in it.

What is not a Game?

  1. Movies models rules and roles of the world. It thus creates a virtual world. But viewer cannot interact with this virtual world. Hence it is a non-interactive entertainment. Not a game.
  2. Magic, Books, Novels etc are not a game due to the same reasons.
  3. Toys are just roles with some acts. No rules and no goals. Hence they are not games
  4. Language and Mathematics model the world with their rules. They create virtual worlds of their own with those rules. But they are mere rules and thus not games.
  5. Religion and Science have rules, roles, goals and acts. Yet they are not considered as games because of the enormity and seriousness of their rules, roles, goals and activities. They are serious-games played by the human intelligence.Game of Religion, Game of Science, Political Games
  6. World also have rules, roles, goals and acts. Yet it is not considered as a game due to the same reason. It is a super-game. Game of Maya
